Description: The Golf GTI W12-650 'design study' shown at a GTI enthusiasts' rally in Austria is a one-off with the W12 boosted from its usual 444bhp to 641bhp and 553lb-ft by the addition of a pair of turbochargers. It's mid-mounted and drives the rear wheels, giving 202mph and 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds.
It sits on 19" wheels and rides 70mm lower than standard, with revised underbody aerodynamics and a rear diffuser to help keep it on the ground at high speed. Wider than a GTI by 160mm, the three-door W12-650 has a carbon fibre roof with air scoop, rear-mounted radiators, redesigned C-pillars and additional side-mounted cooling vents. The cabin has been stripped back to the basics, with just two bucket seats.
