F-14 last carrier operations, transonic pass, 07/28/06 P.R. Tags: F-14 Tomcat last carrier landing takeoff operations transonic pass sound barrier brake Pablo Romay
Length: 0:28
Description: On July 28th 06, the last 8 Tomcats in service, from squadron VF-31 'Tomcatters', made their historic last landings and take offs from the USS Theodore Roosevelt. I was one of the few lucky journalists to be there(the only latinamerican). After the last operation, the Tomcats took off to land on NAS Oceana, in Virginia Beach, VA. The last Tomcat to take off was no. 112. Before that, there was a flight demonstration between a Tomcat & a Hornet, a Tomcat's transonic pass and a goodbye flight formation of 4 Tomcats surrounded by 12 Hornets. During the pass, here, we see the vapor cone formed by condesation of humity in the air due to the compression of the sound waves(shock waves), during the sound barrier brake-thunder.
