On the 15th October 1997 Thrust SSC became the first car to ever break the sound barrier. Piloted by Wing Commander Andy Green of the RAF, a top speed of 763.035mph over the flying mile was achieved. I've uploaded five videos, one on-board and four external (but unfortunately sound-free) videos that I found on the back end of a BBC website. Click on my profile for the list.

It achieved a speed of 1,228 km/h (763 mph) and the SSC became the first land vehicle to officially break the sound barrier.
