The 90 ton rescue boat «Kristian Gerhard Jebsen» has a maximum bollard pull of 21 tons. This was enough to tow the 12.000 ton cruise ship «Finnmarken» at an impressive six knots. «Kristian Gerhard Jebsen» is equipped with two MTU engines, totaling 3000 kW. RS Utvær er stasjonert i Gulen og Solund

On the 15th of November, 2007, the cargo ship «Scan Trans» lost engine power. A nearby ship attempted to tow her, but the tow broke twice. She is only minutes from shipwrecking when the rescue boat «Ruth Opsahl» arrives to tow her to safety, assisted by RS 108 «Kaptein Skaugen» (not shown in video). Full story.... more
